Formed by Brookfield in 2017 to be its operational platform for Brazil transmission lines, Quantum oversees Brookfield’s construction projects as well as operations for the electric power transmission line sector. At the end of 2018, the company held the concession for the construction and operation of approximately 4,300 km of transmission lines and about 40 substations, distributed among seven concessionaires: Esperanza, Odoyá, JMM, Mantiqueira, Sertaneja, Sanguinetti and Veredas. Estimated investments in these projects are BRL 9 billion by year-end 2022.
In 2018, Quantum delivered approximately 1,500 km of transmission lines and 13 substations in the states of Bahia, Ceará, Piauí and Rio Grande do Norte.
Quantum has already arranged long-term financing with the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), Brazil’s government lender, and capital markets’ lines for future investments.
One of Quantum’s goals for 2019 is to exercise its right to acquire the remaining shares of Esperanza, Odoyá and JMM. Additionally, the company is seeking to obtain the necessary licenses, advance its construction work and raise long-term financing to complete the remaining projects under development, incorporating a further 2,800 km of transmission lines in its portfolio.
